Over the past few days, we’ve been settling into our new condo and exploring the charming area of Brentwood Bay. Conveniently, there’s a pharmacy on the ground floor of our building, a market just across the street, and a community centre close by. We’ve also found several thrift shops and a dollar store nearby. Victoria is only a twenty-minute drive away and offers every kind of store and service you could need. We even stocked up at Costco with plenty of fruit and other essentials.
One afternoon, we visited Sidney — a quaint little town perfect for a waterside stroll or a quiet moment with a book. I had a lovely conversation with a gentleman from Vietnam who had previously lived in Charlottetown, PEI, and now calls Vancouver Island home. He mentioned that the mild weather is one of many things he enjoys about life here in BC.
On quieter days indoors, we focus on writing our book, Stories of the Heart, which we began a couple of years ago but had to pause due to Martin’s surgeries and other life events. One of our main goals for this three-month stay is to finish the book with fewer distractions. We also listen to chapters of an online course we purchased about digital marketing.
The weather has been mostly sunny, sometimes with a cool breeze and other days just the right amount of warmth. We expect it to get even better once summer officially begins.
Yesterday, we visited Victoria — what a beautiful city! From its stunning architecture to its abundance of shops, hotels, and waterfront charm, it was a pleasure to explore. We wandered along the harbour, admiring yachts, cruise ships, water taxis, seaplanes, and sailboats.
At dinnertime, we found a cozy pub. I ordered a BLT and Martin chose the clam chowder. The food was delicious and surprisingly affordable. I don’t remember the name of the place, but I’m pretty sure we could find it again.
In the evening, we enjoyed a comedy show at Heckler’s Bar & Grill. We didn’t recognize any of the performers, but they were all quite funny. The headliner, Damonde Tschritter, really stood out — he had a brilliant way of telling stories.
It was a fun-filled afternoon and evening, and we were back home by 10:30.

Au cours des derniers jours, nous nous sommes installés dans notre nouveau condo et avons commencé à découvrir les environs de Brentwood Bay. Il y a une pharmacie au rez-de-chaussée de notre immeuble, un marché juste en face et un centre communautaire tout près. Nous avons aussi repéré quelques friperies et un magasin à un dollar. Victoria est à seulement vingt minutes en voiture et on y trouve tous les commerces et services possibles. Nous avons fait un arrêt au Costco pour acheter beaucoup de fruits et d’autres articles nécessaires.
Un après-midi, nous avons visité Sidney — un charmant petit village idéal pour une promenade au bord de l’eau ou pour lire tranquillement un livre. J’ai discuté avec un homme originaire du Vietnam qui avait vécu quelques années à Charlottetown, à l’Î.-P.-É., et qui habite maintenant sur l’île de Vancouver. Il m’a confié que le climat doux est l’une des nombreuses choses qu’il apprécie ici en Colombie-Britannique.
Lors des journées plus tranquilles à la maison, nous travaillons à l’écriture de notre livre Histoires du cœur, commencé il y a quelques années, mais mis de côté en raison des chirurgies de Martin et d’autres événements de la vie. L’un de nos objectifs pendant ces trois mois est de le terminer, avec moins de distractions. Aussi, nous écoutons les chapitre d’un cours en ligne au sujet du marketing digital.
Le temps a été ensoleillé, parfois accompagné d’un vent frais, d’autres jours d’une brise agréable. Nous nous attendons à ce qu’il soit encore plus beau lorsque l’été commencera vraiment.
Hier, nous avons visité Victoria — quelle ville magnifique ! De superbes bâtiments, une grande variété de magasins, d’hôtels et un front de mer plein de charme. Nous avons longé le port en admirant les yachts, les navires de croisière, les bateaux-taxis, les hydravions, les voiliers, etc.
Pour souper, nous avons trouvé un petit pub chaleureux. J’ai pris un sandwich BLT et Martin a opté pour une chaudrée de palourdes. Le repas était excellent et très abordable. Je ne me souviens plus du nom de l’endroit, mais je suis certaine qu’on pourrait le retrouver.
En soirée, nous sommes allés à un spectacle d’humour au Heckler’s Bar & Grill. Nous ne connaissions aucun des humoristes, mais ils étaient tous très drôles. L’artiste principal, Damonde Tschritter, nous a particulièrement fait rire — il a un talent exceptionnel pour raconter des histoires.
Nous avons passé une superbe après-midi et soirée, et étions de retour à la maison vers 22 h 30.
